Lyssan is an intense board game of strategy, cooperation, and betrayal for two to four players. I did over 60 illustrations for this project during the last couple of months. It was quite fun to work on.

Lars von Trier's end-of-the-world drama "Melancholia" nabbed the best film prize at the European Film Awards, which were handed out Saturday in Berlin. I was a part of this project. Mainly as matte painter. Here is some making of from the stuff we made in Platige Image.

Melancholia

Still a lot of work and a lack of free time. This next project I would like to mention and I was working on is Melancholia by Lars von Trier. It premiered last month at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. I was doing matte paintings and some compositing stuff. It is also my first big flm project, so I'm very proud to had an opportunity to worked on such title.

Today will be one of this rare moments when I'm not posting any sketch. I just want to share with a small news. Short animated film "The Lost Town of Świteź" I've been working for a couple of months last year won two main awards. Best Short Film in Las Palmas and Pulcinella Award in international CARTOONS ON THE BAY festival in Italy.

Ostatnio nie malowałem zbyt wiele poza pracą. Poprostu nie miałem na to siły. Czasem lepiej dobrze spędzić czas ze znajomymi lub zająć sięczymś innym - równie fajnym. Zwłaszcza w przeciągu ostatnich dni nie dotykałem w ogóle tabletu (za to miałem okazje popracować troche z temperami). Już mnie troche jednak rozsadzało z chęci namalowania czegoś fajnego. I tak oto powstał między innymi ten szkic. Pewnie jeszcze nad nim posiedzę, bo wydaje mi się, że można z niego jeszcze sporo wycisnąć.

Teraz już bez emocji mogę napisać pewnym fakcie, który całkowicie mnie zaskoczył. Dostałem Award w ostatnim challange'u na Cgtalk.com! Wciąż nie moge w to uwierzyć... Wystartowałem w konkursie dosyć późno. Finalną pracę dodawałem na godziny przed końcem. W trakcie pracy przeżyłem parę załamań i chciałem rezygnować. Zaskoczenie niemałe, ale i sporo radości. Dawno już nic tu nie wrzucałem. Obiecuję nadrobić trochę zaległości. A jest co nadrabiać. Sporo się wydarzyło od końca ubiegłego roku. Pracuję teraz dla Metropolis Software przy projekcie AAA. Mam teraz nieco mniej czasu na pracę nad prywatnymi projektami (ostatnio nie narzekam na brak pracy), ale staram się też malować ile tylko mam sił i czasu poza pracą. Udało mi się przede wszystkim zająć 1 miejsce w 42 edycji DACAB (To co widzicie powyżej to właśnie praca z 1 miejsca)oraz 3 w dwóch poprzednich. Zobaczymy co przyniesie nowy rok... see you soon.

Od dawna nosiłem się z zamiarem zrobienia jakiejś sceny opisującej ciekawą historię. W moich pracach czesto czegoś brakuje. I chyba właśnie chodzi o ten czynnik sprawiający, że obrazek jest naprawdę ciekawy i zapada w pamięci. Historia może być niejasna, zamglona i zmuszająca do interpretacji, ale sprawia, że to co malujemy przestaje być wyrwane z kontekstu. A o to często w malowaniu chodzi... by przekazać jakąś ciekawą opowieść...
